Hatmaker Week 33, August 2019: New Start And Setting Things Up

Blog Banner Week 33.jpg

I have a new home, and a new studio. It’s not fully operational, both home and studio, but it’s the beginning of something new. A lot of work to catch up. Soon I will receive an update from my felt supplier of the new material that is expected in a months time. Some of you are waiting on a specific color and material blend that is due.

While I hauled tables and boxes, containing tools among others, I have been working on making hats as much as possible. One very hectic week has passed and I hope my focus will be on creation and not so much on building a home. I am still located in the Center of Lund. The studio is still private, invite only.

I began the week by completing this very light weight OLAFUR in Camel Color. This hat was made with a slightly taller crown than what I am used to make on this particular style. The Crown was finished with a vintage stock of ribbons. Brim was cut at around 2 inches. This particular Camel color is part of an outgoing stock. Once it’s been depleted I will replace with a new but similar color. It’s still a secret but it will be of a similar shade in Beaver Blend.

Second finished hat , also Camel color, is a RAGNAR FEDORA. This one has the same vintage ribbon finish. It’s just like any other RAGNAR that I have made in the past. Dimensional cut brim and light in weight. Got another very interesting RAGNAR FEDORA that is being finished and shipped out at the beginning of next week.

This was indeed a very short blog post since I am occupied with just about everything. Will return next week with better content and many new hats to display.

Here is what I have finished this week and still working on for the next.

Stages of making a HUFVUD hat:

  • STAGE 1: Prepare and block out the hat (2 day process at most)

  • STAGE 2: Prepare and Stitch Sweatband - > Stamp Sweatband and Assemble (1 day)

  • STAGE 3: Attach Sweatband to the trimmed felt - > Shape and trim the brim (1 Day)

  • STAGE 4: Brim binding ( Part I, II or III) - Attach crown ribbon (2 - 3 days sewn by hand)

I will include these stages in future posts and you will be able to see which stage each hat is on.
